Let Us Gather, Again!

Hello there my friends!  It is September!  I hope this past summer you have found time to be in the Word and that your times have been sweet!  I participated in a Spiritual Disciplines class at my church this summer, and it was REALLY good!  If you get a chance, I highly recommend reading Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald Whitney.  And yes, you may be thinking that sounds like a hard book to get through.  And at times it was, only because of the clear mirror it held up to my weaknesses.  Stick with it, though.  My group and I found that the last chapter on perseverance was worth it.  In fact, one of the women said she thought that chapter should be closer to the beginning!  I’m not sure I would have finished the book on my own if I had not had a weekly group keeping me on track.  Maybe find a friend or two (or three or four or five or six!) who would commit to reading it with you.  The chapters are very manageable.  I know life is getting busy again with all the activities picking up, but just think about it.

The first two chapters of the book were about Bible Intake for the Purpose of Godliness.  Quiet times, personal devotions, and yes – bible study!  It is that time of the year when OUR study is set to begin, and I am so excited to see what God is going to do this year!  We are going to be studying the book of Genesis.  Now, I have studied Genesis before, as I am sure many of you have.  But this study has been so sweet and fresh!  The author of our study is Jen Wilkin.  She has done an excellent job of getting us to go places we may have never gone before with our questions!  I can’t wait to share it with you!  If you are local, feel free to contact Hinson Baptist Church for information and to register.  If you are not local, or if you are not able to attend one of our two meeting times during the week, I hope you will follow along with our posts this year!

I pray we will all approach our time in the Word this year with the purpose of growing in our knowledge of the One we are to worship.

See you soon!
